Welcome folks, the walkthrough is finally here. I plan on doing this daily, covering a dungeon or town at a time until we are finished with the whole game. Initially, this was going to be a video series, but the collection of glitch gremlins that make a home in my motherboard kept that from being possible.
Instead, you get to see pretty pictures. I promise they are shiny, and new and not sourced from anywhere on the internet.
The basic layout of each of these updates will be as follows:
- Summary of what happened last time.
- Screen shots of new enemies we are going to encounter in the area.
- Shots of the area itself, and any rare or hidden treasures.
- Shots of the boss of the area.
Beyond that, I'll be freestyling here. I'll likely include all treasures found in a location before I show any screen shots of it, to better facilitate any one who may be playing along to collect everything.
Alright, now that all the formalities and introductory stuff is handled, let's get started. I'll be walking you through the intro here. Anytime a new place is found on the world map, I'll include a screen grab of it so you can be sure we are in the same place.
First off, we need to create a new game and name our main character:

First off, we need to create a new game and name our main character:
Now that we've handled that, the game gives us an option screen to configure. I typically set the message speed to fast and the sound to stereo. The A and B button are already mapped, but you can customize what the X,Y, L and R buttons do. I recommend making one of them your Menu, and one of the shoulder buttons your Change command. I'll leave the rest up to you.
Once that is done, the game goes into the intro proper and we are greeted with the sight of a dragon who seems to be talking to us.

The dragon tells you to get up and get moving, and for good reason, as your house is literally burning up around you. That's not a good look, so we should beat feet out of here, but before we do, I need you to open a burning dresser. Just reach on in there and grab that shiny item from the flames. Go on, you can do it.
Inside, you'll find the Vigor Potion, which will raise the vigor stat for any character in the party by one point. Hold on to it for now and follow that weird old dude outta here. He (She?) will lead you downstairs and into the main hall, where everyone is assembled, despite the fact that the building is literally on fire around them.
Once you talk to all the villagers, your sister, Sara, shows up and tries to keep the people calm. Some of them are getting agitated and feeling the heat, so they want to take the fight to the Dark Dragons who are currently stomping the village with their fancy purple boots. Sensing the futility of a fight between a trained army and a bunch of angry peasants, Sara wisely decides to side step the issue.

Once she's cast her stone spell, she gives you a final word of advice and heads out to confront the Dark Dragons, alone, and angry. Once outside, she casts a few lightning spells to fend off the minions until she comes face to face with Jade the big bad general of the Dark Dragon army. He toys with her while she tries to cast lightning spells at him and just Goku's away from each one. Finally, getting fed up, Sara lets loose with her Galick Gun, erm, Fireball.
When that fails to do the job, because of course it fails, Sara is presumably killed or taken prisoner by Jade and the screen transitions to the back story.
The basic gist of the story is that a while back, some Goddess was granting a bunch of wishes with little thought of the consequences. This caught the attention of the Dragon clan who were divided on approaching and taking advantage of the favor. One group, later called the Dark Dragons, asked for even more power than the clan already had. The other group, disgusted by the lengths that some of their brethren would go to for power, decided to stop using the power of the Dragon altogether and live a simple life. These are the Light Dragons, and Ryu is one of them.
After the world went power crazy and started using wishes like they were water, a hero and seven of his buddies stepped up and sealed away the Goddess using six keys. These keys were spread around the world so no one clan could unleash the eager to please Goddess and her wish granting nonsense.
Unfortunately, the Dark Dragons learned of the locations of the keys and used the opening salvo to take out their only real threat, the Light Dragons. Without the quick thinking of Sara, this war would be over before it started.
After the story scroll, the villagers recover from the stone spell, but it isn't clear how much time has passed. What is clear is that the village is no longer burning and that these untrained idiots still want to go fight a war they are destined to lose. It's revealed that the Light Dragons have lost their power to change to Dragons, and the leader of the Dark Dragons, Zog, isn't yet aware of this.
Still the villagers press on, saying that someone needs to go after Sara and save her, or at least learn her fate. Angered, the old lady uses an earthquake spell to scatter everyone from the building, shouting "The Warrior of Light is a myth!"
Once they clear out, only you, the old lady and the village elder are left. Sensing that you have already made your decision, the old lady conjures a blue chest out of thin air and tells you to take the contents.

Once you get your hands on the starter loan, it's time to head out into the wild, crazy world and find your sister, with that whole saving the world thing as a handy side quest to keep you busy.
Next time, I'll get into the first dungeon, show you all the new enemies and give you the skinny on the hidden treasures and some nifty ways to build power early.
See you then, and thanks for reading.
